Leonard Dunton was the son of Mr. Alfred Dunton, of 108, Chester Green Road, Derby, and he was an old scholar of St. Paul’s School. He was employed at Messrs. Newton Brothers, electrical engineers, of Alfreton Road, Derby, and he enlisted soon after war broke out.
‘According to a letter from his Sergeant, the building in which Sapper Dunton lay asleep was struck by a shell, with the result that he and a comrade were instantly killed by a falling girder.’
